Golf green framed by arid hills under a hazy sky

We cover 37 golf courses in Morocco, spread over 14 towns from the Mediterranean to the foot of the Atlas. Marrakech alone has 13 of them, more than a third; Agadir and Casablanca have four each, Rabat three. You can play all year, but a palm-lined parkland under the Atlas, a seaside course in Agadir and a mountain course at 1,650 metres in Ifrane are three very different days of golf. Here is the map, region by region.

The essentials:

  • 37 courses in 14 towns. Marrakech is by far the biggest cluster.
  • Agadir is the mildest winter option: its average daily maximum stays at 21 °C or above in every month of the year (WMO normals 1991-2020).
  • Ifrane works the other way round: at altitude, January maximums average 9.4 °C, so it is a summer course.
  • The oldest course, by its own account, is in Tangier (Royal Country Club, founded 1914); Royal Golf Marrakech, opened in 1927, is the second oldest according to the club.

Marrakech: why one city holds a third of the courses

Thirteen courses around a single city is the densest cluster in the country, and it means you can stay in one hotel and play a different course every day.

The headline names: Royal Golf Marrakech, laid out by Gustave Golias and Arnaud Massy and opened in 1927; Amelkis, 27 holes in three loops of nine by Cabell B. Robinson; Al Maaden, an 18-hole Kyle Phillips design opened in 2010; Assoufid, Niall Cameron’s desert layout facing the Atlas; Samanah, a Nicklaus Design course that hosted the Morocco Champions in January 2020, the first PGA TOUR-sanctioned stroke-play event played in Africa; and The Montgomerie, designed by Colin Montgomerie with European Golf Design.

The rest of the Marrakech line-up covers every budget and standard: Golf Club Rotana (Robert Trent Jones Sr.), Atlas Golf (a 9-hole course by Alain Prat), Noria Golf Club (18 holes in three loops of six), Golf Akenza (Kyle Phillips, opened in 2025), Palm Golf Ourika (a desert-style course by Neil Haworth and Stéphane Talbot), the Fairmont Royal Palm (Cabell B. Robinson, handicap 28 or better required) and The Tony Jacklin Marrakech at Argan Golf Resort. Full details are on our Marrakech page.

Rabat: 45 holes at Dar Es Salam

Royal Golf Dar Es Salam, designed by Robert Trent Jones and opened in 1971, sits in a cork oak forest about 15 minutes from the centre of Rabat. It has 45 holes on three courses: Red (18), Blue (18) and Green (9). Book with care, because they are very different. The club’s rules require a handicap below 18 on the Red and below 28 on the Blue, one caddie per player on the Red, and the course is closed on Mondays.

Between Rabat and Casablanca, two shorter options sit near the ocean at Bouznika: Golf de Bouznika Bay, a 9-hole par 35 by Robert von Hagge, and Bahia Golf Beach, an 18-hole par 72 by Cabell B. Robinson. More on our Rabat page.

Casablanca: golf around the business capital

Casablanca has four courses. Royal Golf Anfa is a 9-hole course inside the Anfa racecourse, given by the club as par 70 over 5,537 metres; the club says non-member access is strictly controlled. To the south, PalmGolf Bouskoura is an 18-hole par 71 by Nelson & Haworth and Talbot Golf Design, and The Tony Jacklin Casablanca, a par 72 with ten artificial lakes, sits in the Bouskoura forest. Casa Green Golf Club, a Jeremy Pern par 72 opened in 2013, completes the set. See our Casablanca page.

Agadir: the winter sun option

Four venues. Golf du Soleil has 36 holes on two courses, Championship and Tikida. Golf de l’Océan has 27 holes in three loops (Garden, Dunes, Desert) by Belt Collins, with a free shuttle from the main Agadir hotels. Golf des Dunes has 27 holes by Cabell B. Robinson, opened in 1991. To the north, Tazegzout, a Kyle Phillips course opened in 2014, sits on a cliff about 80 metres above the Atlantic at Taghazout Bay, 15 minutes from downtown Agadir.

What sets Agadir apart is the weather. At the Agadir-Inezgane station, the average daily maximum runs from 21.2 °C in January to 27.0 °C in August, so it never drops below 21 °C. It is the destination we suggest most often for a first trip between December and March. See our Agadir page.

El Jadida and the Atlantic coast

Mazagan Golf, a Gary Player par 72 opened in 2009, sits within the Mazagan Beach Resort just north of El Jadida. Royal Golf El Jadida is older (1993), a Cabell B. Robinson layout renovated by James H. Duncan, set in eucalyptus and acacia; its operator notes that the last three holes run along the ocean like a links and get tough in a strong wind. It is about an hour by road from Casablanca airport.

The north: Tangier, Cabo Negro and Larache

The Royal Country Club de Tangier, founded in 1914, describes itself as the oldest course in Morocco: 18 holes, par 70, over hilly wooded ground in the city. On the Atlantic side, Al Houara Golf Club, by Graham Marsh and Vijay Singh, opened in June 2021 with an 18-hole par 72 and a floodlit 9-hole par-3 course. On the Mediterranean, Royal Golf de Cabo Negro near Tetouan is an 18-hole par 72 by Cabell B. Robinson, where a forecaddie has been compulsory since 28 May 2025. Published 18-hole visitor rates range from 650 MAD (Tangier) to 800 MAD (Al Houara). In Larache, we could not confirm that Golf de Lixus is open. See our Tangier page.

The east: Saïdia and Nador

Saïdia has two 18-hole par 72s on the Mediterranean: Le Golf des Lacs by Francisco Ségales, with 75 bunkers and island greens, and Teelal Saidia by Nicolas Joakimides, played on sand along the beach. At Nador, the Marchica Golf Academy is a 9-hole par 27 by Ron Garl with a 30-bay range.

The imperial cities, the mountains and Essaouira

Royal Golf de Fès (18 holes, par 72, Cabell B. Robinson, at 700 metres) and Royal Golf de Meknès (9 holes, par 36, inside the Royal Palace grounds, with night golf by the light of the street lamps) let you fit a round into a cultural tour.

At 1,650 metres, Michlifen Golf & Country Club in Ifrane is a Jack Nicklaus Signature course of 7,325 yards, opened in 2018, about an hour by road from Fez. The Ifrane weather station (1,663 m) records an average maximum of 30.3 °C in July and 9.4 °C in January, the reverse of the Marrakech pattern.

Finally, at Essaouira, Mogador has two Gary Player courses (the North is an 18-hole par 72), 3 km from the medina. Bookings are open to players with an official handicap below 36, with proof required before teeing off.

How to choose where to play

  • First trip, winter, sunshine first: Agadir, then Marrakech.
  • Several courses without changing hotel: Marrakech, with 13 courses around one city.
  • Courses with a handicap limit: the Red course at Dar Es Salam (handicap below 18) or the Fairmont Royal Palm (28 or better; club website offline on 16 October 2026).
  • Off the beaten track: the north (Cabo Negro, Tangier) and the east (Saïdia).
  • Golf and culture: Fez and Meknes.
  • Summer golf: Ifrane, at altitude.

The calendar matters as much as the town: see our month-by-month guide on when to play golf in Morocco, and the fees course by course in green fees in Morocco. For a trip built around one base, start with our golf holidays in Marrakech.

The Royal Country Club de Tanger, founded in 1914, describes itself as the oldest in Morocco. Royal Golf Marrakech, opened in 1927, is the second oldest according to the club.

Yes. In Agadir the average daily maximum stays at 21 °C or more in every month. Marrakech reaches 37.7 °C on average in July, so summer golf there means early tee times. In Ifrane, at altitude, summer is the comfortable season.

Agadir in winter for the weather, or Marrakech if you want to play several courses from the same hotel.

Some do. Dar Es Salam requires a handicap below 18 on its Red course and below 28 on the Blue, the Fairmont Royal Palm asked for 28 or better with a valid licence (club website offline on 16 October 2026), and Mogador asks for an official handicap below 36. Bring your handicap certificate.
