Morocco has two golf seasons, not one. The south — Marrakech and Agadir — plays best from October to April, which is exactly when northern Europe does not. The north and the Middle Atlas do the opposite: they come into their own in summer, when Marrakech is too hot to enjoy a round after ten in the morning. Knowing which half of the country you are booking matters more than the month itself.
October to April: the south, and the reason most people come
This is the season that built Moroccan golf tourism. Marrakech sits around 18–24 °C through the middle of the day in December and January, Agadir a little warmer at 20–25 °C, and rain is uncommon in either. You play in shirtsleeves from mid-morning, with a fleece for the first tee.
It is also the expensive half of the year. Expect 600 to 1,200 MAD (£47–95 / €55–110) at the Marrakech courses — Assoufid, Royal Golf Marrakech, Al Maaden, Samanah — and book tee times weeks ahead over Christmas and February half-term. Agadir runs cheaper at 350 to 600 MAD (£28–47 / €32–55) at Golf du Soleil and Golf de l’Océan, and it is the safer bet for consistent sunshine.
March and April: the best golf of the year
If you can choose freely, choose spring. Temperatures settle at 20–25 °C in Marrakech and 18–22 °C on the coast, the rain has stopped, and the courses are at their greenest after the winter. Everything is playable at once — south, coast, and the imperial cities inland.
It is the most popular window with visitors who have been before, so it books out early. Royal Golf de Meknès and Golf Royal de Fès are worth the detour in these weeks specifically.
May to August: go up, or go to the coast
Marrakech reaches the mid-thirties in June and higher in July and August. You can still play — tee off at seven, be in the clubhouse by eleven — but a full day’s golf in the city is not realistic.
Two alternatives work. The Atlantic coast keeps its sea breeze: Essaouira sits at 22–26 °C and Mogador Golf Academy is windy but genuinely comfortable; Agadir holds 25–30 °C. Or go up: Michlifen Golf & Country Club at Ifrane sits at 1,600 m in cedar forest and rarely passes 30 °C. Green fees there stay at 250 to 400 MAD (£20–32 / €23–37) all summer.
Summer is also when the south discounts hardest — 30 to 50 % off in many clubs. If heat does not bother you and you play early, it is the cheapest good golf in the country.
September and October: the season nobody books
The most underrated window. The heat has broken, Marrakech runs 25–30 °C and the coast 22–26 °C, rain is still rare, and the courses have recovered from summer. Visitor numbers are low, so you play at your own pace and pay less than you will in December.
It is the right time for the north-east, where Le Golf des Lacs at Saïdia and Marchica Golf Academy at Nador run 250 to 500 MAD (£20–40 / €23–46) and are almost empty.
November to February in the north: manageable, not ideal
Tangier, Rabat and Casablanca get real rain in these months and sit at 10–18 °C. The courses stay open and playable — Royal Golf Anfa, PalmGolf Bouskoura, Royal Golf Dar Es Salam — but fairways can be soft and you will want waterproofs. If the trip is built around golf rather than around a city, head south instead.
Choosing in one line
Winter sun and you don’t mind the price: Agadir. Best golf of the year and you can book early: March or April, Marrakech. Value and empty courses: late September. Travelling in summer anyway: Ifrane or Essaouira.
