Sunny golf course in winter

For a winter golf holiday in Morocco, between November and March, go south: Agadir and Marrakech average daytime highs of 19 to 22 °C in December, January and February, with about three rainy days a month (2.7 to 4.1, WMO 1991-2020 climate normals). The north is cooler and roughly twice as wet, and the Middle Atlas freezes at night. Winter is also high season, so expect the year’s top green fees: 600 to 1,350 MAD for 18 holes in Marrakech, 850 MAD at Golf de l’Océan in Agadir.

Winter weather in Morocco, region by region

The table uses the World Meteorological Organization’s 1991-2020 normals for the weather station nearest each golf area. They are long-term averages, not a forecast, but they show the pattern well: the further south and the closer to sea level, the better the winter golf. Also considering the Canaries? Compare Marrakech and Tenerife for a winter golf break.

A rainy day here means at least 1 mm of rain. Over the 151 days from November to March, Agadir averages about 15 of them and Marrakech 19, against 32 to 39 on the northern coast. Agadir is also the warmest: even in January it averages 4.3 days at 25 °C or more, while Marrakech averages fewer than one.

November to March, month by month in the south

For a UK, Irish or Scandinavian golfer, the five winter months are not equal. Here are the normals for the two main bases.

MonthMarrakech high / lowMarrakech rainy daysAgadir high / lowAgadir rainy days
November23.1 / 10.7 °C3.824.1 / 12.9 °C3.0
December20.1 / 7.3 °C4.122.1 / 10.1 °C3.6
January19.1 / 5.9 °C3.021.2 / 8.4 °C2.8
February20.7 / 7.6 °C3.722.0 / 10.1 °C2.7
March23.6 / 10.3 °C4.723.4 / 12.3 °C3.2

November and March are the warm ends of the window: Marrakech averages 10 to 13 days at 25 °C or more in each, so you play in a polo shirt all afternoon. March is also Marrakech’s wettest month on average, with 4.7 rainy days.

December to February is the heart of the winter. Afternoons are mild, but Marrakech’s average low falls to 5.9 °C in January, so a 7.30 or 8 am tee time starts cold. Agadir’s average lows are 2.5 to 2.8 °C higher, which is why it suits golfers who want to tee off early every day.

Where to base a winter golf holiday

Marrakech: the widest choice of courses

Golf in Marrakech means one base and a different course every day: the historic Royal Golf Marrakech, opened in 1927, the 27 holes of Amelkis, Kyle Phillips’s Al Maaden, the Nicklaus Design course at Samanah, and others within a short drive. Days are dry and mild, nights are cold, and the snow-capped Atlas is often the backdrop from the fairways.

Agadir: the warmest winter golf

Golf in Agadir gives you four clubs and the warmest winter afternoons of the eight stations above. Golf du Soleil has two 18-hole courses, Golf des Dunes and Golf de l’Océan each have three nines, and Tazegzout, a Kyle Phillips design at Taghazout Bay, has holes 80 metres above the Atlantic. Golf de l’Océan runs a free shuttle from the main hotels, on booking and subject to seats, from 1 October 2026 to 30 April 2027. Staying several weeks or the whole winter? Read our guide to wintering in Morocco and long-stay golf in Agadir.

Essaouira: mild but breezier

Essaouira has the warmest winter nights on the list (an 11.1 °C average low in January) but cooler afternoons, around 18 to 19 °C. The Mogador Golf Academy has two Gary Player courses; it works well as a two or three-day add-on to a Marrakech stay.

The north and the Middle Atlas: cooler and wetter

Rabat, Casablanca, Tetouan and Fez stay playable in winter, with afternoon highs of 16 to 19 °C, but expect 32 to 39 rainy days between November and March. Ifrane, at 1,663 m, is a summer destination: its January average low is -1.0 °C, with 19 days of frost in the month.

What winter golf costs: high-season green fees

Winter is high season in the south, although many clubs publish a single rate with no season. The table shows the public 18-hole prices published on each club’s own site, checked on 9 October 2026. Prices are in Moroccan dirhams (MAD), as the clubs publish them.

Two points matter for a winter booking. First, Al Maaden’s low-season rate (840 MAD, from 1 July 2027) is about 38 % cheaper, so the winter premium is real where a club publishes seasons. Second, multi-round packages can trim the bill: Golf de l’Océan sells two green fees for 1,600 MAD and three for 2,200 MAD per person for 2026-27, against 850 MAD for a single round. Fairmont Royal Palm and Golf du Soleil had not yet published their 2026-27 green fees on 9 October 2026, so ask before you budget.

Caddies, buggies and club hire in winter

  • Compulsory forecaddie at Royal Golf Marrakech and Royal Golf de Cabo Negro since 28 May 2025: 200 to 300 MAD for 18 holes depending on the number of players, per caddie and not per player, paid in cash.
  • Fairmont Royal Palm required at least one caddie per group, 200 MAD per round, in cash (2025-26 rate card; club website offline on 16 October 2026).
  • Caddie fees elsewhere (a caddie is compulsory on every course under a Royal Moroccan Golf Federation circular of 29 May 2025): 120 MAD at Atlas Golf, 150 MAD at Golf de l’Océan, 200 MAD at Al Maaden, 250 MAD at Assoufid (18 holes).
  • Buggies cost 450 MAD for 18 holes at Royal Golf Marrakech, Assoufid and Golf de l’Océan.
  • Club hire is 400 MAD for 18 holes at Royal Golf Marrakech, Assoufid, Al Maaden and Atlas Golf, so for a week of golf it is usually worth bringing your own set.

Packing for a Moroccan winter is simple: a light waterproof, a warm layer for the first holes, and summer golf clothes for the afternoon. If your handicap index is high, check the limits before you book: Assoufid accepts a maximum handicap of 35 and asks for a certificate at reception, and Mogador Golf Academy asks for an official handicap below 36.

The simplest way to combine all of this is one base and a fixed tee time each day. Our golf holidays in Marrakech are built that way, with transfers between the villa and the courses.
