Flying to Morocco with golf clubs: airline fees and rules
- 08 October 2026
Taking your golf clubs to Marrakech or Agadir usually means booking them as sports equipment on top of any hold bag. On 8 October 2026, Ryanair listed golf clubs at €/£40 when added at booking (€/£50 afterwards or at the airport), easyJet charged £45 per flight online on its UK fee table, and Royal Air Maroc carried one golf bag up to 23 kg free of charge. Whatever the airline, add the clubs when you book the flight: that is when they cost least.
Every figure below comes from the airline’s own pages, with the date we read them. Fees move often, so re-check the total at checkout, for both the outbound and the return.
Golf bag fees and limits by airline
| Airline | How the golf bag is treated | Weight limit | Published fee (checked 8 Oct 2026) | How to add it |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Ryanair | Sports equipment in the hold, paid | 20 kg, then excess baggage rate per kilo | €/£40 at booking; €/£50 post-booking or at the airport | When booking, or later (post-booking or at the airport, at the higher fee) |
| easyJet | “Small sports equipment”, paid | 20 kg | £45 per flight online, £52 at the airport (UK fee table); €52 / €62 on the French table | Online or in the app when booking, in Manage Bookings or at online check-in; one item per passenger |
| Royal Air Maroc | Carried free of charge | 23 kg; anything over is standard excess baggage | Free up to 23 kg | Present the bag directly at the check-in counter |
| Jet2 | Golf club carriage offered | Not published (22 kg in a September 2025 Jet2holidays promotion, package holidays only) | No standard fee published on any page we could open | Added when booking |
Three details change the sums. easyJet prices sports equipment “per item, per flight”, so a return booked online from the UK costs £90 for the clubs alone. easyJet also refuses to “pool” weight: your 20 kg golf allowance cannot be shared with your suitcase. Ryanair’s “Golf clubs” line in its fee table does not say whether the price is per flight, so check the basket total for each leg. Above 20 kg, Ryanair charges its excess baggage rate per kilo.
Flying British Airways, Aer Lingus or TUI? We have not been able to verify their golf bag rules on an official page (British Airways’ site did not load when we checked on 8 October 2026), so we publish no figures for them. Read their sports equipment section before you choose a fare.
Who flies to Marrakech and Agadir from the UK and Ireland
Ryanair’s own route data, read on 8 October 2026, lists these routes. A route in the list is not a promise of frequency; some run only a few times a week.
- To Marrakech: London Stansted, Birmingham, Manchester, Liverpool, Newcastle, Edinburgh and Dublin.
- To Agadir: London Stansted, Birmingham, Manchester, Leeds Bradford, Edinburgh and Dublin.
Jet2 announced twice-weekly Marrakech flights from Birmingham, Glasgow, London Stansted, Manchester and Newcastle, with a published programme running to 13 November 2026; we found no official timetable beyond that date. easyJet announced Newcastle to Marrakech from 3 November 2026, on Tuesdays and Saturdays, and Edinburgh Airport’s Marrakech page names both easyJet and Ryanair.
If you mix airlines, for example out on one carrier and back on another, pay for the clubs on each ticket. Nothing carries over between airlines.
What a golf bag really costs on a return trip
On easyJet from the UK, budget £90 for the clubs on a return booked online, or £104 if you add them at the airport. On Ryanair, multiply the listed fee by the number of flights if the basket charges it leg by leg. On Royal Air Maroc, the bag costs nothing while it stays under 23 kg.
Hire clubs are priced in dirhams, per round. On 8 October 2026, Assoufid Golf Club’s price list showed a hire set at 400 MAD for 18 holes and 250 MAD for nine, all taxes included. Four rounds in a week come to 1,600 MAD of hire. Set that against your airline fee and against how much you value playing your own set. Our pages on green fees in Morocco and the cost of a golf week help you put the whole budget together.
Packing the bag for the hold
A 20 kg limit fills quickly with a tour bag, shoes and a few dozen balls. Weigh the packed bag at home. Then:
- Use a padded or hard travel cover. A hard case protects better but weighs more, so check it still fits the limit with your clubs inside.
- Protect the heads. Headcovers on woods and hybrid, a towel round the irons. A rod slightly longer than your driver, standing in the middle of the bag, takes knocks before the clubheads do.
- Fill gaps with soft kit, such as golf clothing and towels, rather than heavy items.
- Label inside and out, and photograph the clubs and the closed bag before check-in. Those photos support any claim.
- Keep in your hand luggage whatever is hard to replace locally: rangefinder, favourite glove, medication.
With Royal Air Maroc the bag goes to the check-in counter, so allow time for it at the airport. With airlines that charge, keep proof of the sports equipment purchase on your phone.
Damaged, lost or delayed clubs: the deadlines
Check the bag before you leave baggage reclaim and report any damage at the airline’s baggage desk. The UK Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) says you may be given a Property Irregularity Report (PIR), and that you must then write to the airline within seven days for damaged baggage, or within 21 days of receiving a delayed bag. It also warns that airlines do not pay “new for old”: they value items by their age.
For Irish travellers, the EU’s Your Europe portal sets the same deadlines and states that the airline is liable for lost, damaged or delayed checked bags, with compensation of up to about €1,300. You can ask the airline, for a fee, for a higher limit, at the latest at check-in. For a new set of clubs, compare that fee with your travel insurance cover.
If the clubs arrive late in Marrakech, hire sets at the course keep your first tee times alive.
Building the trip around your flights
Airport and airline choice shape the rest of the trip: arrival times, transfers, and whether you can play on the first and last day. Marrakech has the deepest choice of courses in our selection, and our guide Marrakech or Agadir for golf compares the two bases.
You book your flights; we build the rest of your tailor-made Marrakech golf holiday around them, with accommodation, tee times and transfers between airport, hotel and courses. For booking tee times yourself, see how booking golf in Morocco works.
