Tazegzout Golf at Taghazout Bay: fairways among argan trees, hills behind

A Taghazout Bay golf holiday is built around Tazegzout Golf: a Kyle Phillips par 72 of 6,730 metres set on a clifftop 80 metres above the Atlantic, plus a 9-hole short course. The resort’s developer lists nine hotels and residences on site, and Agadir Al Massira airport is about a 45-minute drive away according to Fairmont Taghazout Bay. Agadir’s three clubs (Golf du Soleil, Golf de l’Océan and Golf des Dunes) add variety without changing hotel.

Taghazout Bay at a glance

Taghazout Bay is a purpose-built resort north of Agadir, at km 17 on the Essaouira road. Its developer, SAPST (set up in July 2011), describes 615 hectares along a 4.5 km stretch of coastline, organised around beaches, the surf breaks nearby and a 27-hole golf course.

Those 27 holes are Tazegzout: two returning nines, the Vert and the Rouge, which make up the 18, and a 9-hole short course, the Bleu, on the lower level. For a golfer the appeal is straightforward. You sleep, eat and play within the same resort, with none of the daily driving that a sprawling city base involves.

Tazegzout Golf, the resort course

Designed by Kyle Phillips and opened in 2014, Tazegzout covers 76 hectares. The 18 is a par 72 of 6,730 metres (Fairmont’s figure; the tee is not specified). The clifftop holes sit 80 metres above the ocean, the routing keeps as many of the existing argan trees as possible, and the course is irrigated with recycled water.

It is open all year, every day from 7am until sunset, and the pro shop hires out clubs, which is worth knowing if you would rather not pay to fly your own set out for a short trip. The Royal Moroccan Golf Federation puts the course 15 minutes from downtown Agadir.

One point that often confuses visitors: you do not need to stay at the Fairmont to play. The hotel says so in plain terms and simply recommends booking your tee time in advance. Tee times can be cancelled free of charge up to 24 hours ahead; later cancellations and no-shows may be charged.

No official source currently publishes the green fee. We get it for your dates when we quote.

Where to stay at Taghazout Bay

The resort’s official site lists the properties below. We only repeat what it publishes, not the ratings or distances quoted by booking sites.

If golf is the point of the trip, the properties the resort places close to the course (Hyatt Regency, Radisson Residences) or overlooking it (Hyatt Place) keep transfers to a minimum. The Fairmont says it is five minutes from the course and sells a golf package: four nights minimum, three green fees, breakfast, a 30-minute massage and transfers to the course. No price is shown, so when we quote we compare it with booking the room and the tee times separately.

The resort also runs a free shuttle in both directions between the villages of Taghazout and Tamraght, passing through Taghazout Bay, to get around its different areas.

Agadir's other courses from Taghazout Bay

A week on one course gets repetitive. Agadir’s three clubs add 90 holes, all on the Agadir side, south of the resort. Allow for the drive from Taghazout Bay to Agadir, then across town depending on the club; we build those transfers into the itinerary.

Golf de l'Océan

Three nines of different character, combined into an 18 of 5,765 to 5,872 metres from the black tees. The ground keeps its natural, sometimes tight contours, with four lakes, eucalyptus and tamarisk. It is the only Agadir club already showing its 2026-27 rates, including two packages that suit a golf break: 1,600 MAD for two green fees and 2,200 MAD for three, per person. Open seven days a week, 8am to 7pm.

Golf du Soleil

Two full 18s. The Championship, renovated and reopened in October 2019, is a par 72 of 5,976 metres from the back tees, and flat according to the club. The Tikida, extended from 9 to 18 holes in 2006, is shorter (about 5,500 metres from the whites) but its narrower fairways wind through forest, between eucalyptus and tamarisk. There is a David Leadbetter academy on site.

Golf des Dunes

The oldest of the three: three par-36 nines of 3,068 to 3,175 metres across 101 hectares of rolling ground, with four large lakes. A 250-metre range, equipment hire and lessons.

How many days, and what rhythm

With four clubs, three 18-hole combinations at l’Océan, three at Les Dunes and two courses at Le Soleil, a week fills up without repeats. A pattern that works: Tazegzout on arrival day or the next morning, then alternate between the resort and Agadir, keeping the Bleu short course for a late-afternoon knock or for a partner who is just starting. L’Océan’s three-round package slots neatly into that plan.

If you are weighing up a seaside base against Marrakech, which has far more courses, our guide Marrakech or Agadir for golf sets the two side by side.

When to go

Tazegzout is open all year. Golf des Dunes points to Agadir’s ocean climate, with mild winters and summers among the coolest in Morocco, as the reason you can play in any season.

The clubs set their own rate seasons. At Golf de l’Océan the high-season rates run from 1 October 2026 to 30 April 2027; at Golf du Soleil the 2025-26 grid set low season from 1 May to 30 September. In practice:

  • October to April: high-season rates. Book tee times early.
  • May to September: low-season rates at the Agadir clubs that publish them; the cheapest way to play several courses.
