Golf bag and clubs ready for a round

Most Moroccan golf clubs that publish a price list charge between 250 and 400 MAD to hire a set of clubs for 18 holes, on top of the green fee. Over a five-round week that is roughly 1,250 to 2,000 MAD, so the decision usually comes down to what your airline charges for a golf bag and how much you care about playing your own sticks. Below are the hire prices published by the clubs themselves, checked on 9 October 2026, and the sums for bringing your own set instead.

Club hire prices in Morocco, course by course

We only list a price when the club or its operator publishes it, and we note when the grid is dated. Several well-known courses publish no hire price at all, and three have grids that have now expired. Hire is per round, so a set for 18 holes is charged again every time you tee off.

Two things stand out. First, 400 MAD is the rate at four of the five Marrakech courses in the table, which is about a third of an 18-hole green fee at Assoufid Golf Club or Al Maaden. Second, the cheapest published hire is 250 MAD, at Tangier and at Mogador Golf Academy in Essaouira.

No hire price is published by The Montgomerie or The Tony Jacklin in Marrakech, or by Golf de l’Océan in Agadir. The Fairmont Royal Palm, PalmGolf Ourika and Golf du Soleil grids that include hire all expired between 30 September and 4 October 2026, and their 2026-27 rates were not online when we checked. Ask the club, or ask us, before you count on a set there.

What a hire set actually gets you

Only one club in the table names its brands: Royal Golf Marrakech lists men’s and ladies’ bags from Srixon, XXIO and TaylorMade. Cabo Negro also separates men’s and ladies’ sets. Nobody publishes the shaft flex, the age of the sets, or whether left-handed sets exist, so if you play left-handed, use stiff or senior shafts, or are well over or under average height, ask for that in writing when you book.

Check the set when you collect it and again when you hand it back. Assoufid’s general rules make anyone using rental equipment fully responsible for damage, breakage and loss during the rental period, and ask players to check the condition of the items on collection and return.

The sensible way to think about hire clubs is as a fallback, not an upgrade. If you play off a single-figure handicap index with fitted clubs, a week with an unfamiliar set will cost you shots, especially with the putter and wedges. If you play a few times a summer and your own set is tired anyway, a decent hire set may make little difference to your scores.

One rule worth knowing before you plan to share: Royal Golf Dar Es Salam states that a golf bag is for one player only and forbids two players sharing one bag. If a couple wants to travel with a single set, check the rule at each course before you rely on it.

Bring or hire: the arithmetic for a golf week

The cost of bringing your own set depends entirely on the airline. We cover fees and packing rules in detail in our guide to flying to Morocco with golf clubs; here are the three figures that matter for the comparison, from the airlines’ own pages.

  • Royal Air Maroc carries a golf bag free of charge up to 23 kg; excess weight is charged as standard excess baggage, and the bag must be presented at the check-in desk.
  • easyJet (UK fee table) charges £45 per item per flight online for small sports equipment, which includes golf clubs, or £52 at the airport, up to 20 kg.
  • Ryanair (UK fee table) charges £40 (€40 on euro bookings) for golf clubs added at booking and £50 (€50) if added later or at the airport, up to 20 kg in the hold.

Now set those against hire at 400 MAD per round, the rate at most of the Marrakech courses above.

Rounds in the weekHire at 400 MAD a roundHire at 250 MAD a round (Tangier, Essaouira)Royal Air Maroc, returneasyJet online, return
31,200 MAD750 MADNo charge up to 23 kg£90
41,600 MAD1,000 MADNo charge up to 23 kg£90
52,000 MAD1,250 MADNo charge up to 23 kg£90
62,400 MAD1,500 MADNo charge up to 23 kg£90

The easyJet figure is simply two flights at the £45 online rate. Prices are shown in the currency each source publishes; we do not convert dirhams into pounds here, because the clubs do not publish sterling rates and exchange rates move. What the table does show is the shape of the decision: hire costs grow with every round, while the bag fee is fixed for the trip. The more you play, the more bringing your own set pays off, and on Royal Air Maroc it costs nothing up to the weight limit.

Hire still wins in a few situations: a short break with two or three rounds, a trip where golf is one activity among many, or a non-golfing partner who decides to try a round. It also saves you carrying a 20 kg travel bag through Marrakech airport and into a transfer vehicle.

Booking a hire set ahead

None of the clubs we checked publishes how many hire sets it keeps, so treat availability as limited, especially for ladies’, junior and left-handed sets. Ask for hire at the same time as you book the tee time, and confirm it the day before.

Club hire is also only one line on the bill. At Royal Golf Marrakech a forecaddie has been compulsory since 28 May 2025, paid in cash and charged per caddie, not per player: 200 MAD for one or two players over 18 holes, up to 300 MAD for a fourball. Atlas Golf asks players to book caddies and buggies 24 hours ahead. If you are hiring clubs and taking a buggy and a caddie, add those lines together before you compare with the bag fee.

When we organise a trip, we can request hire sets alongside the tee times, and we flag the courses where hire prices are not published so the bill holds no surprise.

What hire does not cover

A hire set is clubs and a bag. Bring the rest yourself:

  • Golf shoes. None of the price lists we checked includes shoe hire. Royal Golf Dar Es Salam allows soft spikes only and forbids metal studs, so check your soles.
  • Glove, balls and tees. Not part of any published hire rate.
  • Your handicap certificate. Assoufid caps handicaps at 35 and asks every player to show a certificate at reception before paying. Dar Es Salam requires a handicap under 18 for the Red course and under 28 for the Blue.
  • Cash in dirhams for caddies, where the club asks for cash.

If you want the whole week priced in one place, including hire where you need it, see our golf holidays in Marrakech, where we use one base and play a different course each day.

Our view: who should bring, who should hire

Bring your clubs if you play four rounds or more, if you fly Royal Air Maroc, or if your handicap index is low enough that unfamiliar clubs will hurt your scoring. Hire if you play two or three rounds, if your airline’s bag fee is high, or if you are combining golf with a city break and do not want to haul a travel bag.

Frequently asked questions

Among clubs that publish a price, a set for 18 holes costs 250 to 400 MAD. Royal Golf Marrakech, Assoufid, Al Maaden and Atlas Golf charge 400 MAD, Amelkis 350 MAD, Royal Golf Dar Es Salam 300 MAD, and Tangier and Golf de Mogador 250 MAD (prices checked 9 October 2026).

It depends on your airline and how many rounds you play. Hire at 400 MAD a round adds up to 2,000 MAD over five rounds, while Royal Air Maroc carries a golf bag free up to 23 kg and easyJet charges £45 per flight online. The more rounds you play, the better bringing your own set looks.

Yes. No club publishes how many sets it keeps, so ask for hire when you book the tee time and confirm it the day before, especially for ladies’, junior or left-handed sets.

Not everywhere. Royal Golf Dar Es Salam states that a golf bag is for one player only and forbids two people playing from one bag. Check the rule at each course before you plan to share.

None of the price lists we checked includes shoe hire, so bring your own. Royal Golf Dar Es Salam allows soft spikes only, with metal studs forbidden.
