Golf in Marrakech in summer: heat, green fees and tee times
- 08 October 2026
You can play golf in Marrakech in summer, as long as you tee off early. In July and August the average daily high at Marrakech-Menara is above 37 °C and the city passes 40 °C on roughly eight days a month, but mornings start at just over 20 °C. Book the first tee time, pick a club that publishes a low-season rate, and check for late-summer maintenance closures, and a summer trip becomes a genuine option rather than an endurance test.
How hot is Marrakech from May to October?
The figures below are the official World Meteorological Organization climate normals for 1991–2020 at the Marrakech-Menara station (the airport, 464 m above sea level), as published by NOAA. They are thirty-year averages, so any given week can run hotter or cooler.
| Month | Average high | Average low | Days at 35 °C or more | Days at 40 °C or more | Rain days (≥ 1 mm) |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| May | 29.4 °C | 15.2 °C | 5.0 | 1.1 | 1.5 |
| June | 33.6 °C | 17.9 °C | 10.7 | 3.0 | 0.6 |
| July | 37.7 °C | 20.6 °C | 22.9 | 8.8 | 0.3 |
| August | 37.4 °C | 21.1 °C | 22.3 | 8.2 | 0.8 |
| September | 32.5 °C | 18.6 °C | 8.5 | 1.2 | 1.3 |
| October | 28.5 °C | 15.7 °C | 2.3 | 0 | 2.4 |
For a golfer coming from Britain or Ireland, three things stand out. The gap between dawn and mid-afternoon is more than 15 °C in high summer, so the cool start is real but brief. July and August are effectively the same month: more than 22 days at 35 °C or above, three days in four. And June and September are clear shoulder months, with around ten days above 35 °C. Rain barely registers: less than one wet day a month from June to August.
What do green fees cost in the low season?
Not every Marrakech club publishes a summer rate. Of those with a price list on their official website, three set out a distinct low season. The rest show a single year-round rate.
| Course | High season, 18 holes | Low season, 18 holes | Low season as published |
|---|---|---|---|
| Fairmont Royal Palm (non-resident) | 1,250–1,400 MAD by tee time | 750–850 MAD by tee time | 1 July to 4 October 2026 (2025–26 rates) |
| Al Maaden | 1,350 MAD | 840 MAD | 1 July to 4 September 2027 (2026–27 rates) |
| Atlas Golf | 650 MAD | 500 MAD (“summer rates”) | Dates not given by the club |
| Assoufid | 1,300 MAD, single rate from 1 October 2026 to 30 September 2027 | None | |
| Royal Golf Marrakech | 1,200 MAD, single published rate | None | |
| Amelkis | 950 MAD, single published rate | None | |
Where a low season exists, the saving is substantial: Al Maaden drops from 1,350 to 840 MAD for 18 holes, and the Fairmont Royal Palm’s 2025-26 rate card took its mid-morning slot from 1,400 to 850 MAD for non-residents (club website offline on 16 October 2026). The Fairmont noted that its rates change every season, and its website no longer responds (16 October 2026): no summer 2027 prices are published, so treat these figures as a guide rather than a quote.
Two clubs publish a compulsory caddie and its fee, summer or winter. The Fairmont Royal Palm required at least one caddie per group (200 MAD per round, paid in cash to the caddie; 2025-26 rate card, club website offline on 16 October 2026). Royal Golf Marrakech has required a forecaddie since 28 May 2025, following a note from the Royal Moroccan Golf Federation: 200 to 300 MAD for 18 holes depending on the size of the group, also paid in cash.
Are there twilight rates in Marrakech?
Not under that name in any of the price lists we checked. The only club that officially priced by time of day was the Fairmont Royal Palm: in its 2025-26 low season, the 7–8 am slot and anything after 2 pm cost 750 MAD, against 850 MAD between 8 am and 2 pm (club website offline on 16 October 2026). So the first slot of the morning is both the coolest and the cheapest. The after-2 pm slot, by contrast, lands in the worst heat of a July or August day; it only makes sense in June, September or October, when the evenings turn pleasant again.
No other club publishes a late-afternoon offer. If you are offered one at the desk, take it as a one-off promotion rather than a rate you can plan around.
How should you plan tee times in summer?
Take the first tee, and book it
The Fairmont Royal Palm prices tee times from 7 am. Assoufid’s clubhouse opens daily at 7.50 am and its pro shop lists hours of 7.15 am to 6 pm, varying with the season. Always ask for the first available slot. The Fairmont also warns that its buggies are limited and should be reserved in advance; in summer, book the buggy at the same time as the tee time.
Think nine holes, not eighteen
Most Marrakech clubs sell a nine-hole round: 500 MAD at Al Maaden in the low season, 300 MAD on Atlas Golf’s summer rate, 450–550 MAD at the Fairmont Royal Palm in the low season. Nine holes in the cool, followed by a bucket of balls or a putting session, is usually a better morning than eighteen that finish in 35 °C.
Pick shade or a short course
Royal Golf Marrakech, which opened in 1927, has some 15,000 trees (palms, orange trees, eucalyptus and pines), so shade is never far away. Atlas Golf, a nine-hole course on the Amizmiz road, suits a short morning outing. Our Marrakech courses compared guide covers the rest.
Build the day around the heat
A rhythm that works in July: tee off at first light, back in the clubhouse by late morning, lunch, then the pool or a siesta through the hot hours. Evenings are for the city, with overnight lows around 20 °C. A buggy, two litres of water per player, a hat and high-factor sun cream are common sense rather than luxuries.
Which courses close for maintenance at the end of summer?
Some courses close in late summer to work on their turf, and only the club announces the dates. The most recent documented case is the Fairmont Royal Palm, which announced a closure for seasonal maintenance from Saturday 15 August to Wednesday 30 September 2026. Nothing says the same dates will apply in 2027.
For any trip between mid-August and the end of September, get written confirmation before booking that each course on your list will be open for 18 holes on your dates. It is one of the checks we run when we put a trip together.
Summer, June or September?
- June: around 11 days at 35 °C or above, and still high-season pricing at clubs whose low season starts on 1 July (Al Maaden, Fairmont Royal Palm). Comfortable mornings, full price.
- July and August: the most heat (average highs above 37 °C) and the lowest green fees where a low season exists. For early risers chasing value.
- September: cooler at a 32.5 °C average high, but it is when the Fairmont Royal Palm closed for maintenance in 2026, and Al Maaden’s 2026–27 high season starts as early as 5 September.
If the heat is a deal-breaker, altitude is the alternative: Michlifen Golf & Country Club at Ifrane sits at 1,650 m. For the whole year at a glance, see when to play golf in Morocco and our green fees in Morocco guide.

Frequently asked questions
Is it too hot to play golf in Marrakech in July?
Not in the morning. The average July high is 37.7 °C, but the average low is 20.6 °C. Tee off at first light and you play most of the round before the afternoon heat; a midday 18 holes is not advisable.
Are green fees cheaper in Marrakech in summer?
At some clubs. Al Maaden drops from 1,350 to 840 MAD for 18 holes in its low season (1 July to 4 September 2027), and the Fairmont Royal Palm charged 750–850 MAD in summer 2026 against 1,250–1,400 MAD in high season. Assoufid, Royal Golf Marrakech and Amelkis Golf Club publish a single rate.
What time should I tee off to avoid the heat?
Take the first available slot. The Fairmont Royal Palm starts at 7 am, and that slot is also cheaper than the 8 am to 2 pm window. Reserve your buggy at the same time.
Do Marrakech courses close at the end of summer?
Some do, for turf maintenance. The Fairmont Royal Palm announced a closure from 15 August to 30 September 2026. Dates change from year to year, so confirm each course is open before you book.
Are June or September better than high summer?
For heat, yes: around ten days at 35 °C or more, against over 22 in July and August. But June is still high-season pricing at clubs whose low season starts on 1 July, and September can fall within a maintenance closure, as the Fairmont Royal Palm’s did in 2026.
