Where to stay in Marrakech for golf: area by area

Villa with a palm-lined swimming pool, lit up at dusk

For a golf trip to Marrakech, the most practical base is usually the south or south-west of the city: seven of the thirteen courses we cover have their address on the Amizmiz, Guemassa or Tahanaout roads. Hivernage and the Boulevard Mohammed VI area (Agdal) sit 2 to 14 km in a straight line from those seven courses. The Palmeraie works if you mainly play the Palmeraie course, and a riad in the medina is fine as long as you sort out the morning logistics first.

Course addresses come from the clubs’ own websites and the Royal Moroccan Golf Federation (FRMG), checked on 12 October 2026. Distances are straight-line (as the crow flies), calculated with OpenStreetMap, so the road is always longer. We give no drive times unless the club itself publishes one.

Where the Marrakech golf courses are

The courses form an arc around the city, mostly to the south. The official address gives the road and often the kilometre marker, and that is the first thing to look at when choosing where to stay.

CourseOfficial addressTime published by the club or the FRMG
The MontgomerieAvenue Guemassa (airport road)About 10 minutes from Jemaa el-Fna square (5 km, our route calculation)

Samanah Golf ClubKm 14, Route d’Amizmiz30 minutes from the medina and 15 minutes from the airport; the same page also says 15 minutes from the heart of Marrakech (club website)
PalmGolf Marrakech OurikaKm 12 (FRMG) or km 13 (club), Ourika road15 minutes outside the city (club website)
Amelkis Golf ClubKm 12, Route de Ouarzazate10 minutes from the centre (club website)

Al Maaden GolfSidi Youssef Ben AliA few minutes from the city centre (FRMG)
Golf Club RotanaCircuit de la PalmeraieNot published
Golf AkenzaExtension of Boulevard Mohammed VI (developer)15 minutes from the centre, for the residential estate (developer)

Two caveats. Club drive times state neither the time of day nor the exact starting point. And none of these thirteen courses has its address on the Fez road, so a villa out on that side of town, to the north-east, puts you further from every southern course.

Straight-line distances from each area

The table gives the straight-line distance (calculated with OpenStreetMap), rounded to the nearest kilometre, between a reference point in each area and the course. For Royal Golf Marrakech, Amelkis and Al Maaden, the course position is the one on the map published by the FRMG or the club. Use the table to compare areas, not to time your departure: the road distance is always longer. Rotana, PalmGolf Ourika and Akenza are left out because we could not tie a map position to the course without ambiguity.

In short: from the Boulevard Mohammed VI area, all ten measured courses are within 11 km in a straight line, five of them within 4 km. From Jemaa el-Fna, Royal Golf, Amelkis and Al Maaden are 4 to 6 km away. From the Palmeraie, all ten are 8 km or more away, and Samanah is 22 km.

Staying in a riad in the medina: what it means for golfers

A riad, the traditional courtyard house in the old city, is the most Marrakech way to stay. Jemaa el-Fna is 4 km from The Montgomerie and Royal Golf, and 15 km from Samanah, as the crow flies. Distance is not the issue; the last stretch to the door is, and access differs from one house to the next. The FAQ of one medina riad, for example, says a taxi can drop you less than 30 metres from its door and that three guarded car parks are nearby. Not every address can say the same.

Before you book a riad for a golf trip, ask these questions in writing:

  • How close to the door can a car stop, and who carries the golf bags to the room?
  • Where will the bags be kept: in the room or in a supervised luggage room? The same riad, for example, has a supervised luggage room at reception, free before check-in and after check-out.
  • Can breakfast be served early enough for a first-hour tee time?
  • Can the driver meet you at a fixed point every morning at a set time?

Carry cash as well. At Royal Golf Marrakech a forecaddie has been compulsory since 28 May 2025, paid in cash, per caddie rather than per player. At Fairmont Royal Palm at least one caddie per group was required, 200 MAD a round, also in cash (2025-26 rate card; club website offline on 16 October 2026). The full rules are on our Royal Golf Marrakech page.

Hivernage and Gueliz: the new town, a few kilometres from the courses

Hivernage and Gueliz are the modern districts west of the medina. From Hivernage, The Montgomerie is 3 km and Atlas Golf 4 km away in a straight line; Assoufid, Fairmont Royal Palm and Samanah are between 11 and 14 km.

Gueliz, slightly further north, gives almost the same distances as the medina for the southern courses, and 1 to 2 km more for Royal Golf, Amelkis and Al Maaden.

Agdal and Boulevard Mohammed VI: closest to the southern courses

Of the areas we measured, Agdal, along Boulevard Mohammed VI, is the closest to the southern group of courses. The Montgomerie and Atlas Golf are 2 km away, The Tony Jacklin 3 km, Noria and Royal Golf 4 km, Amelkis and Al Maaden 5 km in a straight line. The FRMG itself places Noria a few minutes from Avenue Mohammed VI, and the developer of Akenza puts the new course on the extension of the same boulevard.

For a trip of five rounds or more that includes Samanah Golf Club, Fairmont Royal Palm and Assoufid, this is, of the areas we measured, the closest to those three courses. For 3, 4 and 7-night programmes, see our Marrakech golf break itineraries.

The Palmeraie: one course on the doorstep, the rest further out

The Palmeraie lies north of the city. The FRMG places Golf Club Rotana here, on the Circuit de la Palmeraie: 27 holes, an 18-hole par 72 designed by Robert Trent Jones Senior and a 9-hole par 36 by Stéphane Talbot. Two Pickalbatros hotels sit beside the Palmeraie 18-hole course.

The downside is that the other courses are a long way off. The closest in our table, Amelkis and Royal Golf, are 8 and 9 km in a straight line; The Montgomerie is 10 km, Assoufid 19 km and Samanah 22 km. If you plan four or five different courses, expect to cross the city almost every day.

The Amizmiz, Ourika and Ouarzazate roads: golf hotel or villa

Outside the city, three roads hold most of the golf-linked accommodation:

  • Route d’Amizmiz: Fairmont Royal Palm is built around its own 18 holes at km 12, and Samanah is at km 14 on the same road. Note that Royal Palm required a valid golf licence and a handicap of 28 or better (club website offline on 16 October 2026).
  • Route de Ouarzazate: Amelkis is at km 12 and Royal Golf Marrakech on the old Ouarzazate road. Amanjena, at km 12, describes the 27-hole Amelkis course as nearby and itself as a 20-minute drive from the airport.
  • Ourika road: PalmGolf Ourika, at km 12 or 13 depending on the source, describes itself as 15 minutes outside the city.

Which hotels really sit on a course is covered in our guide to Marrakech golf hotels. A private villa on one of these roads is another option for a group (see our golf holidays in Marrakech): we build the trip to measure, courses, tee times, accommodation and transfers; ask for a quote.

One last practical point: whichever area you choose, the clubs do not publish transfer prices. Ask for a price for a driver for the whole stay rather than trip by trip. All our course pages are grouped on the Marrakech page.

Frequently asked questions

Agdal, along Boulevard Mohammed VI, or Hivernage. Seven of the thirteen courses have their address to the south or south-west, on the Amizmiz, Guemassa or Tahanaout roads, and all ten courses we measured are within 11 km of Boulevard Mohammed VI in a straight line.

Yes, as long as you check access before booking: how far the car stops from the door, where the golf bags are kept, what time breakfast starts and where the driver meets you. These arrangements vary from one riad to another.

Yes if you will mainly play the Palmeraie course, which the Pickalbatros hotels sit beside. For several different courses it is out of the way: Amelkis is 8 km, The Montgomerie 10 km and Samanah 22 km away in a straight line.

Only some clubs publish a time: 10 minutes from Jemaa el-Fna for Atlas Golf according to the FRMG, and 20 minutes from the medina for Assoufid and 30 minutes for Samanah according to their websites (Samanah also says 15 minutes from the heart of Marrakech). The others publish nothing, and morning traffic can stretch these times.

Fairmont Royal Palm, built around its own 18 holes on the Amizmiz road, and the two Pickalbatros hotels in the Palmeraie, beside the Palmeraie 18-hole course. Amanjena describes the Amelkis course as nearby.
