Renting a golf villa in Marrakech: what to check before you book

Before you rent a villa for a golf trip to Marrakech, check the drive to the courses you actually want to play: depending on where the villa sits, the same five-round week means anything from about 2 hours 20 minutes to more than 4 hours of round-trip driving, before traffic. Then check the things golfers regret missing: twin beds for playing partners, somewhere to keep the bags, breakfast served before sunrise in winter, a vehicle big enough for the clubs, the deposit and the contract. Here is the checklist, with the golfing reason for each point and the question to ask.

1. Location: drive times to your courses

The 13 Marrakech courses on our site spread from the Palmeraie in the north to the Amizmiz and Ourika roads in the south. To the east, Royal Golf Marrakech, Amelkis and Al Maaden are no more than 11 minutes apart. To the south-west, Samanah Golf Club, Fairmont Royal Palm and Assoufid Golf Club sit within 17 minutes of each other. To the north, the Palmeraie course (Golf Club Rotana, 27 holes) stands apart, at least 16 minutes from every other course we measured. The table gives drive times from five starting points.

Method: times calculated with OSRM (car routing on OpenStreetMap, no traffic) between course positions published by the clubs or by the Royal Moroccan Golf Federation (FRMG). Palm Golf Ourika and Golf Akenza are left out because we could not tie a published position to the course itself. Morning traffic makes the real drive longer.

Take a typical five-round week: Samanah, Assoufid, Royal Golf Marrakech, Al Maaden and The Montgomerie. Adding up the round trips without traffic, that is about 2 hours 20 minutes in the car from a villa next to Royal Golf Marrakech, 2 hours 40 from the medina, 3 hours from a villa next to Samanah and just over 4 hours from the Palmeraie. So pick the courses first, then look for a villa in the middle of them, not the other way round. For an area-by-area view, see where to stay in Marrakech for golf.

Question to ask: how many minutes is the villa from each course on the list, at the time of the first tee?

2. Timings: breakfast, sunrise and the first tee

Since 20 September 2026 Morocco has been on GMT, so in winter Marrakech keeps the same clock as London and is one hour behind Paris, Brussels or Geneva. Clubs, though, publish early tee times: Assoufid’s first tee runs from 7.30am to 2pm at 10-minute intervals (times may vary with the season), and Samanah publishes its timetable month by month:

DateSunriseSunsetSamanah first teeSamanah last 18-hole tee time

Sunrise and sunset: US Naval Observatory, for Marrakech, in Moroccan legal time (GMT). Samanah times: the club’s published operating-hours card, checked on 26 October 2026.

For an 8.15am tee time at Samanah in December from a villa next to Royal Golf Marrakech (26 minutes without traffic), allowing for check-in at the club, you leave at about 7.30am, which puts breakfast around 7am, before sunrise. Our offer includes a dedicated chef cooking in the villa: put your breakfast time in the quote request.

One more detail: at Assoufid, tee times from the 1st are reserved for members as a priority until 9.30am every day. If you want to go out early, have the tee times booked in advance rather than on arrival.

Questions to ask: can breakfast be served before 7am? Can dinner move with the time you get back from the course?

Tell us your courses and we will look for a villa in the right place. We build the trip to measure: courses, tee times, accommodation and transfers.

3. Bedrooms and beds: think playing partners

For a golf group the real question is not the number of sleeping places but how many rooms have two separate beds. Four mates sharing two rooms do not sleep like two couples. Ask about bathrooms too: eight golfers getting ready at 7am for an 8.15am tee time make a queue. Our offer covers villas for 3 to 21 people, so tell us how many golfers and non-golfers are coming and how you want the rooms split (doubles, twins, singles).

Questions to ask: number of twin rooms, number of bathrooms, a ground-floor room if a player needs one.

4. Golf bags: storage and security

A society of eight means eight bags and eight covers to store for the week. A lockable room on the ground floor, close to the door the vehicle pulls up to, saves carrying bags up and down stairs every morning. Airline rules for clubs are in our guide to flying to Morocco with golf clubs.

Questions to ask: where do the bags and empty travel covers go? Does that room lock? Is there a safe in the bedrooms for passports and cash?

5. Transfers: a vehicle that takes the bags

Our offer includes private transfers between the airport, the villa and the courses. What you want confirmed is the real capacity with clubs on board: a vehicle’s stated capacity counts passengers, not golf travel covers. For a group, ask how many vehicles are planned and whether everyone plays the same course at the same time or at different times. Have this line spelled out in the quote.

Bring cash, too. Caddies have been compulsory on every course in Morocco since the FRMG circular of 29 May 2025. At Royal Golf Marrakech the caddie is paid in cash, directly, per caddie rather than per player: 200 MAD for a one or two-ball, 250 for a three-ball and 300 for a fourball over 18 holes. Ask the driver to stop at a cash machine on day one. The full rules are in our guide to handicap, dress code and caddies, and hire prices in our page on golf buggy hire in Marrakech.

Questions to ask: vehicle type and seats with bags, number of vehicles for the group, pick-up time at the course, a stop at a cash machine.

6. Food, cleaning and laundry

For the dedicated chef, ask exactly what is planned: which meals (breakfast, lunch, dinner), whether the shopping is included, and how drinks are handled. What a villa with a chef costs against a hotel is covered in our page on the golf villa with a private chef in Marrakech.

Five rounds in five days is five golf shirts per player. Ask whether the villa is cleaned daily, whether towels are changed, and whether washing can be done on site.

Questions to ask: meals included, shopping, drinks, cleaning frequency, laundry.

7. Deposit, contract and arrival times

Before you pay anything, get in writing: the deposit amount, how it is taken (card hold, bank transfer, cash), when and on what conditions it is returned, and what can be deducted. Have the contract state the maximum number of guests, arrival and departure dates and times, and the cancellation terms.

Arrival times have a golfing reason. In December, Samanah’s last 18-hole tee time is 2pm: with a late-morning landing, a round on arrival day depends on when you can drop your luggage at the villa.

Questions to ask: check-in and check-out times, early luggage drop or late check-out, cancellation terms.

8. Passports on arrival

Moroccan law no. 80-14 on tourist establishments and other forms of tourist accommodation requires operators to ask every guest, on arrival, for an identity document and a signed individual accommodation form (article 37), then to declare their guests to the authorities every day online (article 36). It covers hotels, tourist residences, guest houses and riads among others. If your villa is run under one of these licences, keep passports to hand when you arrive, not at the bottom of a golf travel cover. Ask how the villa is licensed.

What to put in your quote request

Our page on golf holidays in Marrakech asks for the number of golfers and non-golfers, your dates and whether they are flexible, how many rounds and which courses you prefer, preferred tee times (morning or afternoon) and your budget per person; among the optional extras it offers a private chef. Prices start at €1,150 per golfer (about £960), for a private villa for 3 to 21 people, a dedicated chef, private transfers and courses chosen with you; you book your own flights. So that the villa we propose answers the checklist above, add:

  • the courses you want to play, and the longest drive you are happy with;
  • the room split: doubles, twins, singles;
  • the breakfast time you want on golf days;
  • the number of golf bags and whether you need a lockable room for them;
  • your airport arrival and departure times, and whether you want to play on arrival day;
  • the meals you want at the villa, and anything on cleaning and laundry.

If you are torn between a villa and a hotel on a course, compare with our guide to staying on the golf course in Marrakech.

Frequently asked questions

In the middle of the courses you plan to play. For a five-round week (Samanah, Assoufid, Royal Golf Marrakech, Al Maaden, The Montgomerie), the round trips add up to about 2 hours 20 minutes without traffic from a villa next to Royal Golf Marrakech, against more than 4 hours from the Palmeraie.

From 4 minutes (Royal Golf Marrakech to Amelkis) to about 33 minutes (Samanah to the Palmeraie) without traffic, on an OSRM route calculation between the positions published by the clubs or the FRMG. Allow more in the morning.

In December Samanah’s first tee time is 8.15am and the sun rises at about 7.24am. From a villa 26 minutes away, you leave around 7.30am and have breakfast around 7am, before sunrise.

For playing partners sharing a room, yes. Ask for the number of twin rooms and bathrooms, not just the number of sleeping places.

If the villa is run as a licensed tourist accommodation (a guest house or tourist residence, for example), law no. 80-14 requires the operator to ask for an identity document and a signed accommodation form on arrival. Ask how the villa is licensed and keep passports to hand.

A private villa for 3 to 21 people, a dedicated chef cooking in the villa, private transfers between the airport, the villa and the courses, and rounds on Marrakech’s courses chosen with you. Prices start at €1,150 per golfer, and you book your own flights.
