A Marrakech golf stag weekend works best over three nights: two different courses on the two full days, played as a Texas scramble so the beginners count as much as the single-figure man. The easiest clubs for a mixed-ability group list 18 holes at 600 to 950 MAD and publish no handicap limit; the stricter ones cap the handicap index at 35 or 28. Below: a sample itinerary, the formats that keep a stag group moving, the club rules to know before you pack, and a per-head golf budget built from the rates the clubs published on 12 October 2026.

The sample weekend: three nights, two courses

Three nights give you two full days of golf without rushing. The simplest shape for a stag do:

DayMorningAfternoon and evening
Day 1 (arrival)Arrive in Marrakech, check inRange session or taster lesson for the non-golfers, group dinner
Day 2Course 1, team scrambleFree time: medina, hammam, pool
Day 3Course 2, scramble or greensomes, weekend prize-givingLast-night dinner
Day 4 (departure)Depending on your flight: nine holes or the rangeHome

Play in the mornings and the afternoons are free for everyone, golfers or not. One base for the whole trip means nobody repacks. Flights are not included: you book them yourselves.

Which courses suit a mixed-ability group

A stag group usually means one low handicapper, a few mid-handicap golfers and one or two who have never held a club. Pick the two courses around that spread. This is what the Marrakech clubs published on 12 October 2026:

CourseVisitor green fee, 18 holesPublished access ruleWhat helps a mixed group
The Tony Jacklin Marrakech600 MAD (400 MAD for 9 holes)No handicap limit publishedA 9-hole par-3 course next to the 18
The Montgomerie700 MAD (400 MAD for 9 holes)No handicap limit publishedCaddie 150 MAD, buggy 350 MAD (18 holes)
Atlas Golf650 MAD (450 MAD for 9 holes)Dress code enforcedNine holes, beginner lessons, a spa
Amelkis950 MAD (550 MAD for 9 holes)No handicap limit published27 holes in three loops of nine
Samanah1,100 MAD, “subject to seasonal variation”No handicap limit publishedA 9-hole pitch and putt; group rates on request
Royal Golf Marrakech1,200 MADForecaddie compulsoryA 9-hole course besides the Old Course
Assoufid1,300 MAD (1 October 2026 to 30 September 2027)Handicap 35 maximum, certificate requiredFor a group where everyone has a handicap
Fairmont Royal Palm2026-27 rates not publishedValid licence and handicap of 28 or betterOnly for a group of established golfers

If some of the party have never played, the easiest pairing is Argan Golf Resort, home of The Tony Jacklin Marrakech, with The Montgomerie: two of the lowest 18-hole green fees in the table and no published handicap limit. For the second day, Samanah Golf Club adds a 9-hole pitch and putt where the beginners can play while the others go round the 18. “No limit published” does not mean there is none: have the club confirm its handicap limit before you book.

The right format: scramble, greensomes or a straight fourball

Texas scramble for mixed abilities

In a scramble everyone in the team tees off, the team picks the best ball and everyone plays the next shot from there, all the way to the hole. A beginner whose drive gets used once has done as much for the team as the best player. The rules committee of the French golf federation points out that the scramble is not a format in the Rules of Golf, so local rules vary; it recommends a captain for each team, stroke play scoring, and warns that it is “a very slow format”.

For team handicaps, England Golf’s mandatory World Handicap System allowances are a good house rule: in a four-player scramble, 25% of the lowest playing handicap, then 20%, 15% and 10%; in a two-player scramble, 35% of the lower and 15% of the higher. For a fourball better-ball stroke play, the allowance is 85%. Agree how players without a handicap count before the first tee.

Pace of play: the real issue

Eight or ten players in a scramble fill several consecutive tee times. Assoufid’s club rules say a round of 18 holes should take no more than 3 hours 50 minutes, and that a group taking longer than 1 hour 45 minutes for the front nine will be asked to speed up. In practice: pick up after a set number of shots, cap the time spent looking for balls and agree it all before you start.

For the ones who have never played

A lesson on day one beats ten holes of misery. Atlas Golf lists a beginner session at 400 MAD for 1 to 4 people, 300 MAD for 4 to 8 and 200 MAD from 9 people (the page does not say whether this is per person). Samanah sells a morning “En solitaire” package at 900 MAD: welcome tea, equipment, learning the basics on the range from 10:30 to 12:30 and lunch in the clubhouse. More in our guide to beginner golf in Morocco.

Club rules to know before you go

  • Handicap. Assoufid caps it at 35 and asks for the certificate before you pay; the Fairmont Royal Palm only admitted players with a valid licence and a handicap of 28 or better (club website offline on 16 October 2026). Collect everyone’s handicap certificate before booking.
  • Dress code. Assoufid accepts collared polo shirts with sleeves, golf trousers and tailored shorts, and turns away short shorts, vests, T-shirts, rugby shirts and jeans; anyone incorrectly dressed is asked to change. Atlas Golf bans collarless tank tops, tracksuits and sports shorts. If you are printing stag shirts, make them polos.
  • Behaviour. Assoufid’s rules ask for courtesy and sportsmanship “at all times” and phones on silent.
  • Caddies. At Royal Golf Marrakech a forecaddie has been compulsory since 28 May 2025: 200 to 300 MAD per caddie over 18 holes depending on the size of the group, paid in cash.
  • Alcohol. The UK Foreign Office says alcohol is available in licensed venues, and that drinking in the street or anywhere other than a licensed restaurant or bar is illegal and can lead to arrest. It also reports deaths from drinks containing methanol. Any alcohol in your system at the wheel means a fine and possible imprisonment.

Club-by-club detail is in our guide to handicap, dress code and caddies. Paperwork: UK travellers need a passport with an expiry date at least 3 months after the date they arrive (gov.uk); Irish passports need at least 6 months’ validity from the date of entry (ireland.ie).

Off the course: what is easy to book

  • A golf and hammam day at Atlas Golf. The 1,400 MAD “Day Pass” covers an 18-hole green fee, lunch and a 90-minute hammam with scrub and massage. For non-golfers, the 680 MAD “Relaxation Pass” combines lunch and a 45-minute treatment.
  • Jemaa el-Fna square. On UNESCO’s Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage since 2008 (proclaimed in 2001): storytellers, Gnaoua dancers, snake charmers.
  • Jardin Majorelle. Open daily from 8am to 5:30pm, last entry 5pm; tickets online only.

Golf can be the whole programme: with the tee times held in the mornings, the rest of each day is yours.

At Royal Golf Marrakech add the compulsory forecaddie: 300 MAD for a fourball, 75 MAD a head. Accommodation and transfers have no public price: they are quoted on request, depending on numbers and dates. For eight or more, our guide to golf society trips to Morocco covers splitting the fourballs and the caddie bill.

A group of 3 to 21 can stay under one roof in a private villa: that is how our golf holidays in Marrakech work, with the courses chosen from those in Marrakech.

Frequently asked questions

Not everywhere. Assoufid caps the handicap at 35 and the Fairmont Royal Palm required a licence and a handicap of 28 or better (club website offline on 16 October 2026), but The Tony Jacklin Marrakech, The Montgomerie, Amelkis and Samanah publish no limit. Have the club confirm its handicap limit before you book.

A team Texas scramble: everyone plays from the team’s best ball, so beginners contribute to the score. Book a lesson on arrival day and agree simple pick-up rules to keep the pace up.

Using visitor rates published on 12 October 2026 and a shared buggy, allow 1,650 MAD a head for The Tony Jacklin Marrakech and The Montgomerie, or 2,675 MAD for Amelkis and Assoufid, before caddies, club hire, accommodation and flights.

Collared polo shirts, golf trousers or tailored shorts and golf shoes. Assoufid turns away short shorts, T-shirts, rugby shirts and jeans, and Atlas Golf bans tracksuits and sports shorts, so stag shirts need to be polos.

Yes, in licensed venues such as licensed restaurants and bars. Drinking in the street or anywhere unlicensed is illegal, and any alcohol in your system while driving means a fine and possible imprisonment.
