Fairmont Royal Palm golf course, Marrakech, with the Atlas mountains

This comparison covers thirteen Marrakech golf courses, from Royal Golf Marrakech, opened in 1927, to Akenza, opened in 2025. Four of them offer 27 holes, two publish a handicap rule, and eight show a current 18-hole green fee on the club’s or operator’s own site, from 600 to 1,350 MAD. There is no single “best” course: the right one depends on your handicap, how many rounds you want and where you are staying. The table below puts the published facts side by side, with the source and date for every figure in our notes.

Every figure comes from the club, its operator or the Royal Moroccan Golf Federation (FRMG), checked on 28 September 2026. Where the sources disagree or say nothing, the cell is left blank rather than guessed.

Lengths are the figures each club publishes; most do not say from which tees. A dash means the sources we checked disagree (Al Maaden’s par, for example, is 73 on the club’s site and 72 on the federation’s) or give nothing. Fees are copied as the club or operator shows them, with the season where one is given; “price shown by the club” means no season or year appears next to it. “No rate found” means we found no usable price on the club’s own site. Fees change each season, so always confirm before you travel. Our green fees guide covers the rest of the country.

Caddie, buggy, handicap: what comes on top of the green fee

The green fee is not the whole story. In Marrakech a caddie has been compulsory on every course since a Royal Moroccan Golf Federation circular of 29 May 2025; two clubs show it as such on their rate cards, and two publish a handicap rule. This second table gathers what the clubs publish on their rates pages.

In practice: at Royal Golf Marrakech a single player pays a 1,200 MAD green fee plus 200 MAD for the caddie, in cash. In a fourball the caddie costs 300 MAD, to be split as you see fit. So carry cash in dirhams for the round. Our rules for playing golf in Morocco cover dress code and etiquette club by club.

Who each course suits

These notes use only what the clubs and the federation publish. They are a starting point, not a ranking.

If your handicap is high

Assoufid states a maximum handicap of 35, and practice balls are included in the green fee. Fairmont Royal Palm is stricter: access requires a valid golf licence and a handicap of 28 or better. If your group includes beginners, check these rules before you fix the itinerary; our golf society guide covers mixed-handicap groups. Atlas Golf, a nine-hole course among olive and palm trees, is described by the club as “fairly technical” but playable by beginners and advanced players alike.

If you want history

Royal Golf Marrakech opened to its first players in 1927 and calls itself the second-oldest course in the Kingdom. The club counts some 15,000 trees, and the Old Course includes the par 3 named “Brigitte Bardot” by King Hassan II. Bunkers and tees were renovated and five greens rebuilt in 2020 and 2021. Note that a caddie has been compulsory since 28 May 2025 (200 to 300 MAD for 18 holes depending on the number of players, paid in cash).

If you want 27 holes at one club

Four clubs have more than 18 holes: Royal Golf Marrakech (Old Course plus the nine-hole New Course), Amelkis (three nines, Red, Blue and Green, with seven lakes and red-earth bunkers; it hosted the Moroccan Open in 2000), The Tony Jacklin Marrakech (an 18-hole par 72 plus a nine-hole par-3 course on 70 hectares) and Golf Club Rotana (an 18-hole par 72 by Robert Trent Jones Sr. plus a nine-hole par 36 by Stéphane Talbot, according to the FRMG).

If you want tour pedigree

Samanah, a Nicklaus Design par 72, hosted the Morocco Champions in January 2020, which the PGA TOUR described as the first PGA TOUR-sanctioned stroke-play event on the African continent. It also has a 7-hectare practice ground and a nine-hole pitch & putt. The Montgomerie was designed by eight-time European Tour Order of Merit winner Colin Montgomerie and has 81 bunkers.

If you want something recent

Akenza opened in 2025: a Kyle Phillips design where eight holes carry across natural wadis and rocky canyon terrain. Kyle Phillips also designed Al Maaden (early 2010), with Fernando Caruncho’s geometric water features, twelve sculptures and a 300-metre driving range. Noria (2014) is split into three loops of six holes, Garden, Orchard and Dune, with four hectares of lake and 85 bunkers.

If you want water in play

Fairmont Royal Palm winds around five lakes, and its 8th and 12th share a crescent-shaped double green. PalmGolf Ourika is a desert-style layout with wide fairways, sandy waste areas and six lakes. Golf Club Rotana, a 1992 Robert Trent Jones Sr. course in the Palmeraie, has fairways weaving around several large ponds on a fairly flat site. Some booking sites now list it as Pickalbatros Golf Club.

How to combine them

The simplest way to plan is by the road in each club’s official address, because courses on the same road make sensible pairs for consecutive days (our 3, 4 and 7-night itineraries are built this way):

  • Route d’Amizmiz (south-west): Samanah, Fairmont Royal Palm, Atlas Golf.
  • Avenue Guemassa, airport side: Assoufid, The Montgomerie.
  • Route de Tahanaout (south): Noria, The Tony Jacklin Marrakech.
  • Route de l’Ourika (south): PalmGolf Ourika.
  • Route de Ouarzazate (south-east): Amelkis, Royal Golf Marrakech.
  • Palmeraie (north-east): Golf Club Rotana.

This grouping says nothing about traffic, and we do not publish drive times we cannot source. The clubs’ own figures: Assoufid says it is 20 minutes from the Medina; Samanah says 15 minutes from the airport and 30 from the Medina; Amelkis says 10 minutes from the centre; Atlas Golf says 10 minutes from Jemaa el-Fna.

Two practical points. Fairmont Royal Palm closed for seasonal maintenance from 15 August to 30 September in 2026, so do not plan a late-summer round there without checking. And if you are torn between Marrakech and the coast, read Marrakech or Agadir.

What the table does not tell you

Three caveats before you book. First, rate cards change every season: as of 9 October 2026, Fairmont Royal Palm and PalmGolf Ourika had not yet put their 2026-27 rates online, and Samanah says its prices vary with the season. Second, several prices are shown without a year and can change without notice. Third, this article compares the courses; if your main criterion is the budget, our ranking of the cheapest golf courses in Marrakech goes further on summer rates, 9-hole rounds and packages.

A week can alternate a historic course, a recent layout and a shorter day on 9 holes. We put these combinations together in our tailor-made golf holidays in Marrakech, with tee times booked and transfers between courses. To enter Morocco you need a passport: an identity card is not accepted.

Frequently asked questions

This comparison covers thirteen Marrakech courses with published facts, from the 1927 Royal Golf Marrakech to Akenza, opened in 2025. Four of them (Royal Golf Marrakech, Amelkis, The Tony Jacklin Marrakech and Golf Club Rotana) have 27 holes.

Assoufid publishes a maximum handicap of 35. Fairmont Royal Palm required a valid golf licence and a handicap of 28 or better (club website offline on 16 October 2026).

For 18 holes, from 500 MAD (Atlas Golf, summer rate) to 1,350 MAD (Al Maaden, 2026–27 high season); Fairmont Royal Palm charged non-residents up to 1,400 MAD in its 2025–26 high season, which ended on 30 June 2026. Assoufid charges 1,300 MAD from 1 October 2026, Royal Golf Marrakech shows 1,200 MAD and Samanah 1,100 MAD (prices shown by the clubs, checked 28–29 September 2026).

Yes, on every course, since a Royal Moroccan Golf Federation circular of 29 May 2025. Royal Golf Marrakech has applied it since 28 May 2025, and Fairmont Royal Palm required at least one caddie per group (200 MAD per round, in cash; 2025-26 rate card, club website offline on 16 October 2026). Assoufid shows the caddie as “on request” on its rate card.

Group them by road: Samanah, Fairmont Royal Palm and Atlas Golf on the route d’Amizmiz; Assoufid and The Montgomerie on avenue Guemassa; Noria and The Tony Jacklin Marrakech on the route de Tahanaout; Amelkis and Royal Golf Marrakech on the route de Ouarzazate.
